THE OLYMPIC GAMES
THE OLYMPIC GAMES
Paris hosted the Olympic Games and the polo matches were held at Saint-Cloud.
After hosting the Games of the 1900 Universal Exhibition and the Compiègne Golf Open, Paris organized the summer Olympic Games of 1924. Polo was chosen as an Olympic sport for the fourth time, but was withdrawn from the program after the Berlin Games in 1936. The games were held between June 28th and July 12th and almost 25,000 spectators attended.
The Argentinians won the gold medal and France, which was severely thrashed in its four matches, finished last with… the wooden spoon.
The polo club-house, which has recently been rebuilt (on the left of the 3rd hole on the Green course), is the only vestige remaining from this era.
